PROJECT OVERVIEW + RESEARCH
Author: Meagan Cortes, UX Researcher and Designer for this project
Date: 8/12/2022 - 9/8/2022
Problem Statement: Erica is an extremely busy twenty-something accountant who is ready to start planning the wedding of her dreams. She scours different venue sites between work meetings, but is frustrated that many of them require phone call interactions in order to acquire a quote. She wants to find a wedding venue that both fits her style, and her flexibility.
Goals: I’d like to figure out what specific difficulties users encounter when they try to complete the core tasks that come with using the website to obtain a quote for a specific event (in this case, a wedding), and realistically solve those issues.
Project Background: I am tasked with designing a “rustic wedding venue”. venue. I decided to make it a little more broad than that, and make it an event venue that does mainly weddings, but other events as well.
Research Questions:
• How long does it take for a user to explore the homepage until they find their first task?
• Are the users able to successfully find the tasks given without interruptions or obstacles?
• What can we learn from the steps users took to process a quote request?
• Are there any parts of the quote-requesting process where users are getting stuck?
• Is the information submission process easy for the customer?
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Time on task: How much time the users spend exploring the homepage
• Conversation rates: How many quote inquiry forms are being submitted
• User error rates: How often users get stuck trying to fill out the proper input fields
• System Usability Scale: A questionnaire to evaluate customer feedback
Methodology:
• Unmoderated usability study
• Location: United States, remote (participants will go through the usability study in their own homes)
• Date: Sessions will take place between September 25-30, 2022
• 5 participants will submit a form to request a quote for the wedding venue. Each participant will then complete a questionnaire on their experience
• Each session will last for 25-30 minutes
Participants: Participants are anyone who uses or has used a job search app
• Participants do not need to reside in any particular city or state
• Participants should be between 18 and 40
• Participants should include a fairly even distribution of genders across the spectrum and people with different abilities including:
○ 1 user of assisted technologies
○ 1 user with a visual impairment
○ 1 user with an auditory impairment
○ 1 user whose first language is not English
USER PERSONA
“I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” - Thomas Jefferson
Name: Erica
Age: 27
Education: University of Michigan
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Occupation: Accountant
Background: Erica is a woman in her late twenties, currently working as an accountant in greater metropolitan Detroit, Michigan. She has been with her partner Mark for 10 years (highs chool sweethearts). Erica and Mark got engaged in March of 2020 but things were quickly put on hold when the world shut down for the pandemic. They are finally ready to start planning their wedding, with the venue being the first to thing to book. They are going for a rustic-style wedding, and looking for the perfect venue to match.
Goals:
• Find a rustic wedding venue in her general area of the U.S.
• Get a good feel for the venue based on the website alone.
• Get a monetary quote for desired wedding date/time.
Frustrations:
• Many wedding websites are too busy with moving bells and whistles and it can be a bit overwhelming.
• Hard to find websites with a quote retrieval feature; many places require you to call but I am extremely busy during the times the venue offices are open and operating.
